I’ve had an idea

Inspiring People, Inspiring People
For a healthier planet, starting in Cornwall

I’ve had a bee in my bonnet for about six months. Its arrival coincided with us living out of a suitcase for three months due to home renovations, and returning to work after maternity leave. I had this buzz in my brain. At first, I ignored it. But after airing my thoughts with my business coach (the fabulous Gail Gibson), I’ve been egged on to explore my big idea.

Forming my idea

When my clients ask for my help, I always ask: what are you trying to achieve? This helps us to define the right audience and purpose.

So I kept asking myself the same question.

  1. I want to contribute to a healthier, happier world. Clearly, I needed to narrow this down!

  2. I want to support people who are working to promote a healthier and happier world.

  3. I want to support people in my community (Cornwall), who are working to promote a healthier, happier world.

Articulating my purpose

  1. I want to inspire action, forge connections and share knowledge across sectors.

  2. I want to create a community of enterprises in Cornwall that share a common goal to protect both our health and the health of the environment.

  3. I want to use the power of storytelling to celebrate the wave of action in Cornwall that contributes to making our world a healthier place to live.

  4. I want to call it Inspiring People, Inspiring People (IPIP, Cornwall)
(name thanks to a friend I went to university with, thank you Steph!)

Getting in a muddle

Next, I put the feelers out. I shared my idea with friends and family, who listened and provided input and ideas. Then, I presented to my colleagues at the University of Exeter who shared a wealth of information and ideas for stories I could capture.

But all of these great ideas left me in quite a muddle.

An experienced colleague gave me one final piece of advice.

While it’s great to get ideas and input, make sure you stay true to your original purpose.

Making connections

I’m now teaming up with some exciting new connections in Cornwall, and looking for funding opportunities to get IPIP off the ground. I will explain more in my next blog!
